AimValley & OE Solutions demonstrate PLE in a Smart SFP

Hilversum, the Netherlands, March 26, 2025 – AimValley and OE Solutions demonstrate the use of Smart SFP for Private Line Emulation (PLE) applications, allowing any system to become a Private Line Emulation (PLE) supported system.
Private Line Emulation
A new method for transparent high bit-rate transport, called Private Line Emulation over Packet-Switched Networks (PLE) was worked on at IETF and has been approved as the proposed standard. This new standard enables operators to offer high bit-rate signals such as SONET OC-192, Fibre Channel 64G, 32G and 16G, OTN OTU4 and fully transparent Ethernet on existing packet networks with the same quality and availability as WDM or traditional TDM systems. All it takes is a PLE interworking function at each of the service endpoints that converts the client signal into packets and vice-versa.
With the advent of PLE as a new standard for high bit rate signals, the need arises for a tailored solution when only a few legacy client signals are to be provisioned at a small edge location. For such cases, a Smart SFP is the optimum fit. All that is required is to insert a Smart SFP into the router and allocate a dedicated packet service to the remote location.
At OFC 2025 we will demonstrate the interworking of a PLE Smart SFP with a Cisco PLE router showing multi-vendor interoperability.

Smart SFP technology
