OE Solutions Introduces 6W Industrial-Temperature 100G ZR QSFP28 DCO Transceiver for Legacy QSFP28 Ports in Access Networks
By OE Solutions
Ridgefield Park, New Jersey — September 18, 2026 — Building on several years of proven expertise in developing advanced Digital Coherent Optical (DCO) products, OE Solutions announces a major thermal and performance advancement in its DCO portfolio with the introduction of its 6W Industrial-Temperature 100G ZR QSFP28 DCO transceiver. Engineered to support both 100GE and OTU4 data rates, this new module features full C-band tunability and achieves a maximum power consumption of 6W across the full industrial temperature (I-temp) range.
By dropping power dissipation down to a maximum of 6W, this transceiver eliminates the traditional thermal barrier that once forced network operators to use custom high-power slots or external gear for coherent technology. This allows the module to drop directly into standard QSFP28 slots without risking thermal shutdowns, overcoming the limits of older cages built for less-power-hungry direct-detect modules.
Tailored for mobile, MSO, and other access environments, this module can be deployed in standard QSFP28 and QSFP-DD ports. It supports an optical reach of up to 80 km/120 km (power-limited) and 500 km (noise-limited), giving operators an efficient way to push high-capacity DWDM deeper into space- and power-constrained edge and backhaul locations using their existing hardware footprint.
“Achieving a maximum power consumption of 6W over industrial temperatures is a milestone for deploying coherent optics at the network edge,” said Kyu Hyun Kim, CTO of Coherent Technology at OE Solutions. “By making this module compatible with legacy QSFP28 ports across switches and routers, we are giving customers the flexibility to scale bandwidth efficiently across networks.”
OE Solutions is showcasing this module during the upcoming ECOC 2026 conference in Malaga, Spain. The company will begin sampling its QSFP28 DCO modules to select customers in the fourth quarter of 2026, with general availability expected in the first half of 2027.
