OE Solutions Announces Extended Reach 10Gbps Transceivers for Cost-Sensitive Access Networks

By OE Solutions

Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, March 16, 2017 — OE Solutions announces the release of Extended Reach 10Gbps CWDM SFP+ transceivers. The new transceivers, which support 1GE and 10GE for Ethernet applications as well as CPRI-2 to CPRI-8 for wireless network applications, use cooled DFB laser diodes combined with wide dynamic range APD detectors and proprietary circuitry to extend the reach to 20km for wavelengths up to 1611nm.
The extended reach transceivers are available for CWDM wavelengths from 1471nm up to 1611nm complementing the standard line of DFB-based 10Gbps CWDM transceivers from 1271nm to 1451nm for a total of 18 channels with industrial-temperature rating. Extended reach transceivers, using directly modulated DFB lasers, are cost-effective alternatives to EMLs for applications in access networks, such as for wireless fronthaul or Ethernet service delivery.

Bandwidth demand from consumers and enterprise customers continues to rise, especially for mobile network platforms, while the competition to deliver that bandwidth grows amongst the service providers. At the same time, the required reach has increased with the emergence of centralized radio access network architectures. The resulting cost-pressures on the network infrastructure is relentless driving equipment suppliers to search for technologies that can deliver higher bandwidth as well as cost reductions without sacrificing reach. Using extended-reach directly-modulated lasers across the full CWDM spectrum enables a low-cost transceiver solution while meeting the bandwidth and distance requirements of such deployments.

“Cost-efficiency of access networks is a critical issue as end-user demand for bandwidth and service ubiquity keeps growing. Meeting such demands requires careful consideration of how we harness new and existing technologies,” said Per B. Hansen, VP Marketing & Sales of OE Solutions America. “We remain focused on delivering the most cost-effective solutions that support this evolution.”

The Extended Reach 10Gbps CWDM SFP+ transceivers are currently available as samples. Volume production will start in Q2 2017.
