OE Solutions Unveils High-Density Transceivers for Wireless Fronthaul Networks
By OE Solutions
Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, March 16, 2017 — OE Solutions announces new high-density transceivers, including 2x10Gbps Compact SFP+, 4x10Gbps QSFP+, and 25Gbps SFP28, for wireless fronthaul applications. These new industrial-temperature rated transceivers enable high port densities in radio access network equipment in support of next generation wireless infrastructures.
As 5G is being defined in the standards bodies, equipment manufacturer and network operators continue the rapid evolution and deployment of 4G technologies deploying higher bandwidths to enable new, and in some cases 5G-like, features. This year the number of 10Gbps CPRI ports deployed will exceed the combined total of all lower rates, and the number of 10Gbps ports are growing rapidly. In addition, 25Gbps transceivers will start adding significantly to the wireless fronthaul capacity over the next 12-18 months. However, space and power remain scarce and the industry is therefore driving towards physically denser solutions. Multiplying the number of wavelengths per transceiver cage and increasing the bit rates per wavelength will address this challenge while retaining the cost-efficiencies of the network.
“The wireless networking market is evolving extremely fast. New 4G equipment will continue delivering increasingly advanced and bandwidth hungry services, while 5G is being standardized and readied for mass deployment,” said Per B. Hansen, VP Marketing & Sales of OE Solutions America. “We are pleased to continue working closely with the leading network equipment providers to meet their challenges in terms of bandwidth and physical design, which naturally comes with such a rapid evolution.”
The new high-density transceivers complementing OE Solutions’ already wide range of IT-rated transceivers are:
- 2x10Gbps Multi-rate (1270nm and 1330nm) bidirectional Compact-SFP+ IT for distances up to 20km
- 4x10Gbps Multi-rate 850nm QSFP+ IT for distances up to 300m
- 25Gbps (Multiple rate and protocol options) 1310nm SFP28 IT for distances up to 10km
These transceivers are currently available as samples. Volume production will start in Q2 2017.
