OE Solutions and AimValley demo Smart SFPs in New York

By OE Solutions

New York, November 6, 2012 — OE Solutions and AimValley demonstrate the Smart SFP™ at the Light Reading Ethernet Expo in New York. Smart SFP™ is a trademark of OE Solutions for transceivers with integrated system functions. In December 2011, OE Solutions teamed up with AimValley to develop this innovative technology. The first system in an SFP, the OAM Smart SFP™, was demonstrated in March 2012, rapidly complemented with the OC-3/STM-1 TSoP Smart SFP™ in April 2012 and the OC-12/STM-4 TSoP Smart SFP™ in September 2012.

“The OAM Smart SFP™ is the world’s first and smallest OAM capable NID in an MSA Compliant SFP form factor. The integration of a system into an SFP greatly reduces system and network complexity, and offers lower carbon footprint while generating CAPEX & OPEX savings,” says Pieter de Boer, managing director at AimValley.

The OAM Smart SFP™ integrates OAM functions in an SFP form factor, handing operators an effective tool for monitoring and troubleshooting Ethernet services. Link layer monitoring is supported using instant on Link OAM according to IEEE 802.3ah. For service layer monitoring the OAM Smart SFP™ uses Connection Fault Management according to IEEE 802.1ag and ITU-T Y.1731.

The TSoP Smart SFP™ converts SONET/SDH TDM traffic to a packet stream. Operators now can transport OC-12, OC-3, STM-4 or STM-1 traffic across a packet network by simply adding a TSoP SFP to any router or packet switch. The TSoP Smart SFP processes the STM N/OC N signal fully transparent, maintaining payload structure, protection protocols and synchronization end-to-end; this simplifies the configuration and service turn-up.

The Smart SFP™ serves a wide range of transceiver types. Variations include dual fiber, single fiber BiDi, CWDM and reaches up to 80 km over Industrial Temperature range, i.e. -40 ~ 85oC.

Visit us at booth 332 of the Light Reading Ethernet Expo in New York, Nov 6-7, for a live demonstration of both OAM and TSoP Smart SFP™.
