San Diego, March 1, 2019 \u2014 OE Solutions demonstrates the use of the Smart SFP for Software Defined Wide Area Networking (SD-WAN) applications. Network Migration is a key application of Smart SFPs. Several versions are available for migration of legacy TDM services, T1 up to OC-48, over Ethernet. The Smart SFP for enhanced Software-Defined WAN services over OC-48 physical connections was announced recently and new versions at other speeds are in development. This allows customers, ranging from large network equipment manufacturers to small city carriers, to deploy new services on their network or to solve problems that could not be easily solved before, by using the Smart SFPs.<\/p>\n

Rapid deployment of new services is the new standard these days for end customers. Service providers require a fully flexible demarcation point that supports any service and any interface type on-the-fly. Even though many networks have already been upgraded to native packet technology, there are still numerous areas that are connected via TDM-based infrastructure.<\/p>\n

A typical scenario is the connection of branch offices to the headquarters, for which reliable T1 leased lines are commonplace. In such a scenario, SD-WAN can easily be deployed by inserting a T1 Smart SFP in one of the available GbE ports. Plug-and-play operation allows instant service availability which can be extended at any time by remotely installing new functions within seconds.<\/p>\n

At OFC 2019 OE Solutions will demonstrate how a T1 Smart SFP turns an SD-WAN node into a VoIP gateway.<\/p>\n
